After completing my university education in my home country, I decided to take some time to experience a different culture, develop myself, and create meaningful memories. I often saw people participating in volunteer projects on social media, and this inspired me greatly. I told myself, “I must volunteer too,” and began researching opportunities. Eventually, I joined the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) and was hosted by NaturKultur.
In September, I started my project in Bremen, Germany, working with individuals with special needs. Observing how each person’s potential can be realized with the right support was truly enlightening for me. This experience has improved both my professional perspective in the health field and my approach to human relationships. Sometimes, a single smile or a small interaction can brighten my entire day. What I have learned from them is far greater than what I have given.
I arrived with only basic knowledge of German. At first, there were moments when I struggled to express myself, but I did not give up. Gradually, I became more confident in speaking. Now, I genuinely enjoy learning German. Recognizing my daily progress allows me to see how much this experience has helped me grow. It also makes me very happy to witness the supportive reactions of my colleagues when I try to speak German.
When I arrived in Germany, I did not realize that I was stepping into a new version of myself, not just a new country. I did not notice how quickly time was passing. This experience has taught me not only about volunteering, but also about patience, courage, and independence. Most importantly, I have created wonderful memories. I truly love the work I do and the people I work with.
When I reflect on the time I have spent here so far, I see that this volunteering experience has given me many of the things I was searching for. I am eagerly looking forward to the new experiences that await me in the future.
