Gulchin in Bremen // 1st Report

I’m Gulchin from Azerbaijan (Ganja), and in October 2025 I started my volunteering project at a Waldorf school in Bremen.

Let’s get started 🙂

My journey started a bit messy, but now everything is going smoothly. Adapting here was not very difficult for me, probably because I already had previous experience living abroad. I just want to say that the weather here is quite cold, and since I’m from Azerbaijan, I’m not really used to it.

When I first arrived, I had a language barrier, but people were very understanding. I liked that I wasn’t afraid to speak German and tried to communicate with everyone about everything 😅 I think this experience is different for each person, but I feel lucky to be here.

Many things have changed. From the very beginning I made a lot of new friends, and because of that I don’t feel homesick. I was sick, depressed, and overwhelmed at times, but having them around makes me stronger — we have a really good community of friends. Now I can speak German much better. At work I speak only German, and I think that’s the main reason why I learned so fast.

I work with children — we play games, do homework, draw, and take part in many different activities together.

I have already visited different cities in Germany, but my favorite is Bremen. It’s not very big, but big enough, with lots of outdoor and indoor activities to do.

I’m a social person, but it’s really important to me what kind of energy I give to and receive from people. This experience has changed me a lot. It’s very different from my previous experiences, and I truly enjoy what I do and how we do it. In the beginning it might feel a bit chaotic, but with time everything becomes smooth.

If you get a chance to volunteer — don’t miss it. Try and grow. 📌
