Eurielle in Bremen // 2nd Report

After nine months here in Germany, spring is finally here! And as the weather, my perception of my volunteering changed a lot. The arrival of fine weather allows me to enjoy it spending a lot of time outside, using my bike or by foot. I travelled more (and it’s not over), and I discovered that I can in fact travel alone without problem. Even though I love traveling with my friends, we went for example in Cracow which is one of my favourite city so far. I discovered recently that I really enjoy traveling alone. This is probably related to my improvement in English. I feel much more confident, I can easily solve a problem and communicate with foreigners. I planned a travel in Amsterdam soon and for summer I’m planning to do an Interrail in eastern Europe, I’m looking forward to doing it!

Concerning my project, I feel more confident, that’s why my mentor gives me more responsibility. I take more initiatives with the children, and I noticed that I could communicate easier with them in German. I decided to make some projects in the school, and I planned to cook, in the school’s kitchen, a French meal with some students. Soon, chicks will be hatching in the school’s chicken coop and my mentor gave me the idea to take care of them with one or two students and giving them information about chicks’ life.

About the German language I think I’m in a turning point. Before, I was more focusing into improving my English, but now I really want to improve my German. I read children books, I watch videos on YouTube, and I take one class per week to obtain the level B1. I’m really motivated even though my project finish in a few months. I don’t want to have any regrets, especially about German. Because it would be a real shame to have spent a year in Germany and not have made any progress at all.
