Location: Miercurea Ciuc, Romania
The main activity will be to facilitate different camps for disadvantaged children in the surrounding villages of Miercurea Ciuc, with the focus on non-formal and informal learning activities for children outside of school.
The camps will provide more social interaction for children outside of school in rural areas and support them in developing foreign language competences.
This project position will be hosted by ASOCIATIA CARE2TRAVEL.
You will be accommodated in the centre of the town, max. 2 participants in the same room, with gender-separated rooms, fully furnished accommodation, a well-equipped kitchen with stove, oven, sink, refrigerator, table and chairs, as well as a bathroom with toilets and showers.
You will have dinner at a local buffet-style restaurant on weekdays and ingredients provided in the kitchen for all other meals OR volunteers can use their food budget to cater for themselves.
On bigger distances either the staff of Care2Travel will take you by car or you will be given all the necessary information for using the bus/train.
Care2Travel is an organization which will provide support for your ESC project. They are a non-governmental youth organization created in 2011. Care2Travel is a volunteering organisation with a focus on making a difference. Working at a grassroots level, everything they do is about meeting reals needs, caring for the local environment and giving back to the community. The organisation has hosted volunteers from all over the world on long-term and short-term projects.
The main goal of the organization is to connect volunteers from different nationalities to work together on responsible placements that support the development of the local communities & the personal development of the volunteers. Moreover, by creating positive volunteering experiences they aim to popularize volunteering in Romanian society & thus support the growth of an active civil society.
The staff of Care2Travel is always there to support the volunteers in everything they need or everything they do. You will be supported by your coordinator throughout your voluntary service, to discuss your weekly schedule and own ideas. You will meet on a regular basis to discuss your development, ideas and tasks. As a volunteer, you are expected to be an active contributor – you will provide a new vision and perspective and be a valuable member of the team.
In addition, you will have a mentor who will help you integrate into life in Miercurea Ciuc, make connections outside of your workplace and immerse yourself in the culture.
You will have access to the OLS Language tool in Romanian, so you can improve your language skills throughout your stay in the country.
In addition, you will participate in an on-arrival and a mid-term training, organised for all ESC volunteers in the region in the beginning and towards the end of your voluntary service.
We are looking for 4 volunteers that have an urge to develop their communication and cooperation skills and to recognise their strengths and weaknesses within a team; want to develop their practical skills in the planning and implementation of activities, want to have a meaningful contribution to society and wish to step out of their comfort zone and also a motivation to contribute to the creation of more non-formal learning activities for 8-15 years old children outside of school.
The project is financed by the European Solidarity Corps. You will receive a monthly pocket money and food budget (or arranged as described above), health insurance, and travel cost reimbursment (180-275€, depending on the distance). You may also still qualify for German child support money (Kindergeld), depending on your age.
